Content focus

1. Introduction to Air Therapy

Outlining AIR Therapy; identifying important people in the young person’s life and where they can go for help; setting goals for AIR Therapy; and introducing mental health difficulties in young people.

2. Mindfulness and managing distress

Recognising feelings of distress and what to do in these situations; introducing mindfulness and mindfulness strategies; and describing art therapy approaches and its potential benefits.

3. Emotions

Developing an understanding of what emotions are and why they are important; identifying myths about emotions; and developing skills to identify, interpret, manage and express emotions.

4. Self and identity

Outlining the concept of self-identity and what it means to have an identity; recognising one’s own beliefs and values and how they shape identity; and developing and understanding the importance of planning future goals.

5. Our relationships and interpersonal skills

Learning about healthy relationships; developing skills to recognise and work through conflicts and arguments; learning about interpersonal effectiveness skills; and developing these skills to help manage relationships.

6. Self-care

Understanding the meaning of self-compassion and its importance; learning about self-care and how to practice it; and learning about effective choice making.
